5 stars in a weird way. I bought this as a surprise to my 75yr old parents. Our booking was originally rescheduled from first night because of some difficulty finding a guide after ours got sick. If you’ve spent time in Hawaii, you know things like this can happen and if you are able you should just roll with it. I’ll take a small, niche, tour company over a giant group any day. We were able( though barely because the following night was night of my redeye back home). But rescheduled regardless, and took a chance. My parents were frightened to death. They weren’t sure they’d even go in the water ( the ocean is dark at night fyi). Our guide Rachel persuaded them to trust her, that she does this regularly, and that they have thought thru plenty of safety scenarios. We had life jackets, wetsuits, flash lights, beacons, good snorkel equipment, safety briefs, backups of equipment…they still weren’t convinced but decided to attempt anyway. Once in the water, as a group, with the lights, all the equipment on, they were sold. Ready to rock. Unfortunately however, our guide knew something we didn’t. The swell had begun picking up just shortly before we stepped into the water, and as everyone began acclimating it wasn’t trending in a good direction. The sand was getting kicked up, the current was getting stronger, and as we were about ready to paddle off, she saw the writing on the wall and called the tour short for safety. This was a really difficult decision for a professional/employee/businessperson as it would mean no money and potential negative responses. We probably could’ve waited it out a little to see if the ocean once again grew calmer. But as a diver very confident in swimming in the ocean even in poor and nighttime conditions, it was absolutely the right call and her putting everyone’s safety first to her own disadvantage is absolutely worth 5 stars. Tl:dr If you’re: brave, curious, reasonably fit, respectful, a slight bit reckless, and willing to have a good time, you should trust Zephyr Adventures with some time in the water

Aloha, Thank you for your informed response and letting guests know your experience with us. This specific day was very unusual as ALL day we ran out day time tours and the water was absolutely beautiful, flat, and calm all day. Typically there is much warning during the day condition wise, this specific night we thought it was going to be top notch conditions, and the ocean took a quick turn that was unexpected. I am thankful our guide Rachael made the right call. Mahalo!

Rachel was AMAZING leading us on the adventure of a lifetime. Turtles swam right at and under us from their cave. She not only made us feel completely safe but also took photos and videos of the adventure. A MUST DO when in Maui! And ask for Rachel! 💕🐢

Really fun and unique experience. Swimming in the ocean at night sounds a bit dangerous but it’s actually really cool! The highlight was definitely the many turtles we saw. Our instructor Rachel was super helpful and experienced, overall a great experience!
