We stop outside North Beach’s most venerable landmark, the Saloon. This time-honored establishment traces back to the 1800s with stories of kidnapped sailors not to be missed. Note of caution: 21+ and older to enter.

We took this tour on a recommendation from a friend while visiting and it was a fun way to get exposed to some bars with some neat stories and unique genuine character that we would never have likely checked out on our own. It was very casual, the different pizza styles were all excellent and the focus of the pub side of the tour is on the history, culture and character of the places not on the beverages themselves as those are just your basic domestic options. It was definitely like we were in the locals scene and not hitting just a bunch of bullet points from a travel guide which was nice. it was basically like meeting a local, hitting it off with them and having them take you out for the night to a few of their favorite spots and they just happen to know a lot about the history of the area and the places as well. It was the first time we ever did something like this and having a host like Kara inspired us to look for more opportunities and followed up with Kara's Tea and Dim Sum tour later on during our trip. Kara was on time and prompt. The tour involved walking around the neighborhood starting during the day time and going into the night so being prepared for San Francisco's night time temperature drop is advised.
