This was definitely the most unique thing we did on our trip, and seeing sea turtles in real life (even before getting on the scooters underwater) was amazing. It was also our second and last chance to snorkel, on our last day in Hawaii.
While this time went wayyy better for me (had an extremely hard time breathing out of my nose even with a warning that some women have this issue, and got wayyy too much water in my mouth panicking about it), I couldn’t help but compare part of our experience here to that first snorkel excursion we did. I felt that crew did a much better job at explaining how to snorkel, and going over some safety tips (like not wearing flippers on the boat) that would definitely benefit first timers. I was glad that I’d had that “preview” information to use here, so I’d gotten to enjoy myself more.
The two divers that took us underwater were great, along with the one that took really awesome photos and a video of us, but some of the other divers that worked on the boat were a little less than professional. A few of them were relaxing on another boat when we arrived, and were playing loud music during some of the captain’s instruction that made it hard to hear. One of the same ones that lost his footing prior to our departure was kidding around with a knife with other crew, and while it was in good fun with his peers, it could’ve easily went sideways with us being on choppier water.
Overall though, I am super glad that I booked this excursion, and it was the cherry on top of our trip. The captain was super sweet, and did an excellent job of giving a breakdown of the scooter experience and calming nervous feelings. My diver was also patient with me at some hesitation between leaving the ladder and taking the tiny leap of faith onto the scooter. I saw people of multiple ages and sizes having a great time, and would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an Oahu memory.
