The Oak Alley plantation tour is one of the most magnificent plantation tours near New Orleans because of the 28 evenly spaced, huge Oak Trees that go from the river road to the Plantation House. The Greek Revival home dates back to 1837. Located on the grounds is a restaurant, blacksmith shop, Souvenir Shop and antique farm equipment. Next up is an airboat tour - hold onto your hat! Our New Orleans Airboat Swamp Tour is a high speed adventure that is part tour and part ride. Along the way, you will get a personal tour by your local Captain. Our airboats have stadium seating, so that the person in front of you does not obstruct your view. So, every airboat seat is great for experiencing the tour and viewing the wildlife.

On this tour, you will experience the best of both: an informative swamp tour and high speed thrill airboat ride. You will travel at high speeds in the airboat then slow down and stop for pictures. Your Captain will give you a tour of a life time explaining the culture, animals, and the swamps. You may even experience a close encounter with some of the local swamp life. Please note: the order of the combination tours may change based upon availability and weather.

The tour was very well organized with the hotel pick up but our driver on the way back could not get close to our hotel due to the Essence Festival going on. It was no problem because our hotel was just a few blocks away in the French Quarter The plantation and grounds were beautiful. It was super hot that day but the air conditioning was on in the bus and the house. Plenty of options for something to drink. I highly recommend the Mint Julep! We then met up with another bus that took us on our airboat ride which was SO MUCH FUN! Our guide took us through multiple canals in the bayou and we were able to see the alligators in their natural habitat. Our guide even had his own little one on the boat. Totally recommend this tour

If you fantasize about life as a human trafficker then by all means visit Oak Alley. Very little is done to honor the hundreds of lives lost to the cruelty of the Roman family. Nothing on the plantation is original except for a fan and some writing box. The reason that house is still standing is because of the enslaved people who built it, yet the builders are only mentioned during the tour one time. The rest of the tour is about the wealth of the Romans and the beauty of the house and property. How many people did the Romans see that were whipped on and in front of the massive oaks in front of their house? I would rather hear the story of those trees have to tell than to listen to a tour guide fawn over a family who built their wealth trafficking human beings. Oak Alley’s focus is money not education nor healing from history. The swamp tour was the only good part. It was informative and fun. I was educated about the importance of preserving wildlife.

The swamp tour was so much fun. We loved seeing the beautiful trees, water ways, birds, and alligators. Our tour guide, Matt, was funny and knowledgeable. Oak Alley was also beautiful but I found the tour not overly informative and quite short. While you are allowed to explore the grounds, including the garden and slave quarters, on your own, the tour of the home is guided and felt limited. The oak trees are amazing. Next time I might just choose to do the swamp tour and skip the plantation.
