We had a fabulous time in our two weeks in the Poipu/Koloa town area of Kauai. We stayed at an Airbnb. We traveled all around the island seeing most all of the highlights. Most all the famous beaches are sand and welcoming. The wind blows most of the time which cools things down from the 85 degree days. We found wonderful places to eat in the Poipu area. Keoki's is almost a must stop if only for the Hula pie. We had a coupon for a free slice from 20 years ago which they honored! It was as good as we remembered. We also really liked a somewhat new addition to Koloa town, Kauai Island Brewing Company. While it serves their own beer brewed off-site, the food was fantastic. The fish and chips were especially good (made with Mahi Mahi). It's located in a new outdoor mall. When traveling north from Lihue we stopped in Kapaa for lunch at Java Kai, a coffee house that served terrific sandwiches. We attended a luau at the Sheraton resort which was right on the beach. The performance was fantastic and the settings was phenomenal. Hanalei Bay was another highlight. The beach was big and sandy, the water clear and warm. The grandkids enjoyed jumping off the long pier. Lunch in town offered a large selection of cuisines. By all accounts they were all good. Well in advance of our trip we reserved spots on the tubing adventure down the plume offered by Kauai Backcountry Adventures. It was one of the highlights of the trip! We had two weeks to take our time but if you are more time limited, those are some of the highlights we remember most. We shall return!

Beautiful waterfall at the side of the road. You can park and view the falls right from the scenic lookout parking lot. Walk across the street to see the beautiful Wailua river and valley … an ancient spot where the first natives cultivated land and developed their society … some cool history!!
