We boarded a 12 passenger vessel at Semiahmoo Resort in NW Washington at 1pm. We traveled quickly and comfortably to Orcas Island to pick up several more passengers. The eleven of us represented 3 continents and 4 countries. We watched whales for over two hous in three locations. The first sighting was in Canadian waters with a view of Vancouver in the background. I was surprised to see the Orcas swimming near the huge cranes and B.C. ferries. The personable crew continually shared their knowledge of the resident pod of Orcas. The last sighting at 6pm was magical, as mothers and calves surfaced and males breached on their journey south.

My wife and I shared our very memorable day with a younger couple, who live and operate a business on Orcas Island, and their two young sons. We all had a truly great day. We knew at the outset that we would not be seeing the resident J-Pod of orca whales since they were last seen a day or two before heading north on the west side of Vancouver Island. But Beau said he knew where we could probably find some gray whales up in Boundary Bay (in Canadian waters) that he had seen the day before. So off we went and spent at least two hours amongst a pod of gray whales that put on quite a show for us. There were only three boats up there, two Canadian based Whale Watch boats and us. They were there for no more than thirty minutes, while we remained for at least two hours enjoying and taking pictures of the show. On the way up and on the way back, Beau took us on a varied route in order to show us seals basking on rocky shores, harbor seals chasing their lunches, a bald eagle surveying his kingdom, the Patos Island lighthouse, and an hour long fossil hunting expedition on Sucia Island. We ended up spending six hours of absolute enjoyment with Beau and look forward to our next opportunity to spend a day with him.

If you go to the time and trouble to vacation on Orcas Island - AND YOU SHOULD - your vacation will not be complete without a Whale Watching excursion with Beau on Outer Island Expeditions! How would we describe our 6 hour tour? UNBELIEVABLE!! It was absolutely, without a doubt, worth every penny and then some!! My husband & I stayed at the new Worldmark property at Deer Harbor, August 2008. As I looked through the resort's recommendations for Whale Watching Charters, the Outer Island Expedition advertisement caught my eye because it included a dinner on Sucia Island! I booked the adventure without discussing it with my husband. When I told him that our whale watching cruise was on a catamaran and dinner was included he was quite skeptical - and that was before I told him the price!! The vessel was clean, sturdy; and Beau, the captain was so very knowledgeable and accomodating. We followed a pod of Orcas for hours up into Canada, then viewed beautiful Bald Eagles, followed by the most romantic dinner (even though we shared the experience with another couple and their great kids from Maryland - our new best friends!), made and served by Beau, in the park on Sucia Island with the most gorgeous view of the Harbor & the lagoon. AMAZING!! If you are on a honeymoon or wedding anniversary - this is a must!!
