This tour departs from Orcas Island. The island can only be reached by the Washington State Ferry System. If your party is not already on island we recommend our Anacortes departure location.
Check in begins 30 minutes prior to departure.

Our family of 4 (our kids are 8 and 11) took the Sunset Kayak Tour with Outer Island Expeditions after having great experiences with them doing whale watching in prior visits to Orcas -- and the kayak tour did not disappoint! Our excellent guide Paul was full of interesting facts about all of the nature we saw around us (we saw seals showing off to each other in the water!) and had some funny kayaking jokes to share with us as well. Thank you, Paul, for a lovely evening out on the calmest sea water ever (we went at high tide) -- we all had a blast!

Me and my wife were really excited about this trip for such a long time and ended up incredibly disappointed. We read reviews and watched videos and every single one recommended this trip, and that's why we opted for this option instead of all the other whale watching trips out there. Overall, this trip was very underwhelming. It started off with an hour or so ride to the waters at the US/Canada border where we got to see our first and ONLY whale of the trip, a humpback whale. After that, we circled back and the boat took us to Spieden Island, where we took an unnecessarily long amount of time cruising by the island, looking at a few harbor seals and deer, even backing the boat up to see a bald eagle (?). And, believe it or not, THAT WAS IT! There was no real effort shown from the crew to try and actually find more whales at all. The minimum 3 hours were up and we were back at Orcas Island at 1:30 on the dot, with no comment nor explanation from the crew regarding the lack of whales on our WHALE watching tour. This was definitely not the experience we were looking forward to. It really left a sour taste in our mouths.

Great guides. Informative and helpful. Persistent. Found a huge pod of orcas after lots of looking. Great enthusiasm. We learned so much about sea creatures and the islands. Boat was great fun.
