Right from the beginning there was good communication about this tour. A few days before the tour the tour operator called and left a clear message about the time he would pick us up from the hotel in Waikiki. This was followed by a call the evening before to confirm the time and place of pickup. Pickup in the hotel was prompt by the tour guide, Neil. The vehicle was a new minivan. It was clean and air-conditioned. Neil made sure to ask us (a family of 3) whether we were comfortable. He kept up a running commentary of the places we were passing on the way to Pearl Harbor. He had cold water bottles ready for us and had already informed us that bags were not allowed in. He offered to keep our bags in the van. He walked us over to the ticket counters and procured the passport tickets for Pearl Harbor, USS Arizona, USS Bowfin, USS Missouri and the Aviation Museum. He explained the places in detail and planned with us to meet at the parking lot after the self guided tour in the afternoon. The Pearl Harbor tour can get very hot and tiring depending on the humidity and the temperature, so keep water handy. A good tip by Neil was to finish the Pearl Harbor museums before proceeding for the USS Arizona memorial part and to reach there around 10 minutes before the time stamped on the ticket. Since the USS Arizona memorial is undergoing renovations and is closed to the public, there was a guided boat tour operated by the US Navy that took us around the USS Arizona. The next stop was the USS Bowfin submarine which is part of the Passport tour. This is a well designed tour that takes you through the interior of the submarine from one end and comes out at the aft. On the deck of the submarine it can get very windy so watch out for losing your hats. Next we were taken to the USS Missouri and Aviation Museum by buses operated by Roberts Hawaii. After we finished the Pearl Harbor Passport tour we met Neil back in the parking lot and he drove us on the Honolulu City Tour. He was quite knowledgeable about the city and its history. He stopped at several places frequently where we could get off and take photographs. Our last stop was at Leonard's Bakery which is famous for its malasadas or donuts. After this we were dropped off at our hotel. This was a great experience and I would recommend this tour for anyone visiting Oahu.
