We could not stop talking about our visit to the Plimoth Plantation living museum. This was an amazing experience that we will remember always. You must see the orientation video first before entering the museum. Take the time to stop and talk to all the people along the way. we were blown away with the history lesson that we were not expecting. The stories that we heard you would truly believe you had stepped back in time. A credit to all the staff both the pilgrims and the indigenous Americans. Do yourself a favour and pay them a visit.

I hope you'll have the chance to visit us again. 2020 marks the 400th year of the Pilgrims arrival, the return of the Mayflower after a three year restoration. We'll also be talking about Thanksgiving as we approach that anniversary in 2021, the many ways that the Wampanoag People continue to say thanks to their creator today and how that first event has evolved into the family holiday we all celebrate today.

I went to the Plimoth Plantation on a tour group with 20 8th graders and it was such a fun and enriching experience. There were real native Americans tending real gardens like they had in the 1600s. The houses were being constructed in front of us using the same methods as well. There were pottery demonstrations, weaving, tanning, etc. I definitely recommend this activity for all students but feel it’s most appropriate for ages 10-15.

I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed your experience. One of the most unique things about Plimoth Plantation is that the Wampanoag Homesite is staffed by indigenous people, dressed in traditional 17th-century clothing, with many of the staff from the Wampanoag Nation. Their people have lived in this region for more than 12,000 years and they are staff at this exhibit to inform our guests first-hand of their history and culture. The word for house in their language is Wetu - house of one fire. You may have seen them constructing either the summer house with cat tail reeds or the winter house that is bark covered. Plymouth Plantation is a living museum that traces the history of the pilgrim fathers from England and the Netherlands to America. They also show and tell the story of the indigenous Americans lives before and when the settler arrived. After the orientation film you are free to explore and interact with the actors, they are vet knowledgeable and stay in character at all times. We also checked out the Plymouth Rock and various statues, plaques and monuments in the town. These are worth a visit but you will only need 30 mins at the most.
