Here you will have the opportunity to get within twenty-five feet of our distinctive Brown Bear in a naturalized setting. The three-quarter acre habitat, set against the National Forest, is the largest bear habitat in North America and is complete with covered viewing areas. Meet their experienced rescuers as they share their love and knowledge of this often feared, but yet revered creature of the forest.  Learn the challenges they experience as they seek to rescue these incredible giants.

Located on a 17–acre campus bordering the Tongass National Forest and Indian River, its primary mission is the rehabilitation of sick and injured eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, and other birds of prey which are brought in from all over Alaska. The Center (the largest of its type in the state, and one of the largest in North America) receives between 100–200 birds a year, with many suffering from gunshot wounds and traffic accident-related trauma. Центр хищников Аляски

Центр (крупнейший в своем роде в штате и один из крупнейших в Северной Америке) принимает от 100 до 200 птиц в год, многие из которых страдают от огнестрельных ранений и травм, связанных с дорожно-транспортным происшествием. Цель Центра состоит в том, чтобы вернуть птиц в дикую природу после того, как они будут вылечены и переобучены «жизненным навыкам хищников» (таким как полет) в закрытом Центре летной подготовки белоголовых орланов. Our 62 year old guide was born and raised in Sitka. She was so knowledgeable and fun! Absolutely fantastic tour!

From the cruise ship you take the free shuttles into town (allow 30 min) then meet this tour just outside the building where they drop you off. The vans hold ten people each and are very comfortable. We went to parking lot to see fish processing plants, a native school, and remnants of the old airport. Then we went to Fortress of the Bear which was awesome. It is a bear sanctuary for orphaned black and brown bears. You can get very close to them. Next we went to the raptor center and saw birds inside and outside. Last we went to the Historical Park and walked into the rainforest and saw salmon spawning.

Our cruise was diverted to Sitka with closing of Skagway Port. We are seasoned cruisers and have learned to avoid booking excursions with the cruise lines as they are in general more expensive. This was our first cruise to Alaska and in spite of gong in early September we had beautiful weather the entire cruise, yes it rained a little but you should expect that in Alaska. In port there were may vendors as usual and we decided to go with Sitka Wildlife Tours run by Bruce and Rhonda. Their number is 1-907-738-1733. They were booked full but they said Bruce would take us and four other people in his Nissan Armada, since all the vans were full. Bruce has lived and worked in this area most of his life and is extremely knowledgeable about the history of Sitka. His is an excellent guide and took us to beautiful areas with very majestic views. He is quick to point out any eagles as they abound in this area. I would highly recommend you use their service when you arrive in Sitka.
