The riverfront and adjacent downtown are ideal for exploring on foot and is featured on the National Register of Historic Places. Mount Vernon is also home to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, which draws guests from around the world each spring! The primary objectives are to conserve the area, conduct research and provide public education programs. There are two miles of hiking tracks through the 93 acre preserve, most of which is on Kiket Island. Several fish species, shellfish and eelgrass beds can be found along the two miles of shoreline. An optional trip to Hellam's Vineyard, La Conner, Washington. Enjoy a waterfront meal overlooking the Swinomish Channel. La Conner's restaurants offer patio dining in summer overlooking a passing parade of leisure boats on the Swinomish Channel.
