Tuzigoot National Monument

Douglas Mansion

Learn more about the city of Jerome's extensive history and mining operation at Jerome State Historic Park. Douglas' grandfather began the family's involvement in copper mining in Canada. As an engineer and scientist, his father, James, traveled all over the world. Son James Stuart took to mining with gusto. It was in Nacozari, Mexico, that he acquired his nickname ("Rawhide") inspired by use of rawhide to reduce roller wear on a cable car incline.

We did the historic shuttle tour of Jerome. Our tour guide was Brett and he was very knowledgeable and informative. We were the only 2 on the tour and he geared it to our interests. Was well worth the money at a 50% discount! It was a very interesting tour of this historical mining town.

My mom loves history and she thought Jerome was the highlight of our AZ trip that included Sedona and the Grand Canyon. Miranda took us on a fascinating history tour of Jerome. She sprinkled in some of the ghost stories (she asked first) and really tailored the tour to our questions. She was great and I would recommend this tour to anyone that goes up to Jerome!

We found this tour on TripAdvisor. We were glad we took this tour and visited the city of Jerome. We definitely learned a lot about the mining history of the town and how the town became a ghost town. As a family, we were not interested in the ghost/spirits aspect of the tour, but we just waited by the tour van while the rest of the group went ghost hunting in the high school. Ghost hunting was not the main focus of this tour, although the company said they did offer experiences for those who are interested in that. When we checked in, we did not feel that welcomed by the person working the desk. We asked if the tour we booked would be a ghost tour and they seemed to laugh at our question and not give us the answer to the question we were asking. It did make us worried for the tour because we did not want a tour that was focused on ghost hunting. Our tour guide was wonderful though and explained the history of the town and answered all questions people in the tour asked without a major focus being on ghosts. Overall, a very interesting tour that allowed us to visit a town we never would have otherwise!
