This tour explores the very beginnings of Sacramento, from Sutter’s colony Nueva Helvecia to food tastings in current at hidden gems locals! You’ll learn about how the many diverse immigrant groups forged our great city and created its agricultural dominance as you eat, drink and stroll.

Local Roots Food Tours limits the group size of each tour to no more than 14 individuals. Special dietary needs can be met with prior notice. This 3 hour tour takes place Monday through Friday.

Though subject to change, typical tastings on this tour include:

Croque Monsieur Sandwich, baked ham and gruyere cheese

Chef selected artisan cured meats and cheeses

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

Grilled Pork Spring Rolls

Bahn mi chicken sandwich w/fresh veggie toppings

Fresh roasted organic coffee w/unique blends

Enjoyed it all……food…..history. Just enough food, walking. Our guide was awesome and informative. Enjoys the variety of food and walking.

Even before we met our guide Shelly, the tour owner kept in touch with us to see if we still wanted to take the tour since it was predicted to rain. We went ahead and took the tour and, luckily, the only rain (and hail!) come while we were indoors enjoying a bowl of hot Pho; Perfect! We got to try some neat restaurants and a variety of food and wine during the tour as well as learning a little bit about the Sutter area of Sacramento. OUR ENTIRE GROUP VERY MUCH ENJOYED THE TOUR!

This was a great way to understand a little more about Sacramento's food culture which is driven by a 'look local first' attitude. The food experienced was delicious and my guide (Shelley I think, sorry I can't remember) was great to hang out with as we wandered around the quiet streets. We tasted American, Vietnamese, Modern, coffee & Gluten & Dairy free items and even had a wander through the Sacramento Co-Op which is an amazing local produce and natural type of food store. A mix of history and modern local culture - this tour was a great way to spend a cool day in Sac.
