San Antonio Zoo

At the Africa Live! exhibit, see underwater views of hippos and Nile crocodiles. Trek to see okapi, African wild dog, dwarf mongoose, colobus monkey, a giant aviary, and a termite mound. The Savanna is an exciting exhibit that is home to three giraffes as well as birds and zebras. We also offer daily opportunities to feed at the interactive feeding station. At Kronkosky’s Tiny Tot Nature Spot, designed for kids under five, tiny explorers can dig, climb, get wet (bring your swim diapers), and get dirty as they uncover and discover nature’s wonders. Visit Amphibia to see anything from dart frogs to the tiniest salamanders and learn how you can help save amphibians of the world. At Big Cat Valley, home to a new lion habitat, guests can get face-to-face with these magnificent animals – making for an unforgettable, unique experience while visiting the zoo. You can also feed our flock of Caribbean flamingos, and come in close contact with beautiful and gregarious small parrots.

We took our 4-month old baby to the San Antonio Zoo. The initial parking was a bit funky as we were directed to a garage a few hundred feet from the entrance. The zoo was clean and well laid out. There was a large variety of animals from all around the world. Some exciting animals we saw included a jaguar, bear from South America and white rhinos. Some of the big cats were either not visible or not in their cages which was a little disappointing. Our baby enjoyed the carousel and flamingoes immensely. This is definitely a great choice for those with young children. Teens and young adults without kids most likely won’t enjoy this zoo as much. Bottom line, I’d highly recommend this for parents with small kids as the zoo is largely geared for that age group.

This was a wonderful zoo. It was so clean and organized. So many animals and lot I have never seen before. So glad we went to see this attraction.

Spent the day at the San Antonio zoo for the first time while in town visiting with family. Loved seeing the diversity of animals, ranging from small-large mammals, many brilliant birds, and very cool reptiles. I had not been to the SA zoo before, but I have heard from family and other locals it has been greatly improved and can see the results of that—I hope the zoo continues to improve and grow! Staff were very friendly, kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. Due to construction of the new exhibit, my family and I got lost a couple of times (probably due to our own error with the map), but staff were very helpful in directing. As well, staff were enthusiastic in sharing about specific animals, which was really appreciated. Did not have small children with us today, but this would be a great place for a family with children and little ones, as there are many activities interspersed throughout the zoo for children. Could easily be an all day experience, especially with kids. Would recommend visiting on a cooler weekday in the morning-early afternoon—I think we saw more animals out and about because of timing!
