My husband and i first learned of this fire engine tour through my father in law, we booked our tickets before we went as there is very limited seating.
It really is a great tour, firstly because it is so different, secondly because of the enthusiasm of the hosts is infectious and thirdly lets face it you get to over the golden gate bridge on a shiny red mack 55 fire engine!!!
We met the tour at the cannery where we were given our fire jackets before boarding, even thought it was sunny and warm we were told it can get cold going over the bridge.
We began our tour with our hosts telling us great information on San Francisco and sites that we were passing on the way. We first stopped in the Presidio right under the golden gate bridge.
Shortly we began our tour over the golden gate, it was one of the coolest things we have done, here we were driving over in a fire engine and when we looked back everyone else was in a car. It got really cold as we went over the bridge and it was shrouded in fog, but it was an amazing sight to behold.
When we emerged on the other side of the bridge we headed to Sausalito, a beautiful town on the other side of San Francisco bay. We then went down to the water to have our picture taken standing in front of the bridge. It was great to see the skyline of San Francisco from another point of view.
We returned to San Francisco sight seeing the whole way back, it was a really fun and interesting tour.
Tip: Book before you go as there are limited seats(12) on the fire engine.
