Kathy is very passionate and knowledgeable about the history of the Castro. This is a must do tour for anyone looking for more info on this area and LGBT history. My 14 year old daughter found the tour very interesting as well. I would highly recommend!

This tour offers the unique opportunity for anyone curious about how this neighbourhood became a melting pot of sexual diversity, the tragic downfall of Gay Rights Activist "Harvey Milk" as well as an understanding of the plight of the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s. The guide colours the tour with a historical narrative about the key locations where the first openly gay elected male was in office. You will see how this once very conservative catholic neighbourhood was transformed into one of the worlds most sexually diverse places to live till today. In addition to this exploration of the historical birth of gay rights in the US, the tour offers an opportunity to understand and see old street art concerning the HIV and AIDS epidemic. You have the chance to understand and explore what life was like for the queer community all those years ago. Transported back in time to understand how their struggle paved the way for equality and the liberal sexual freedom that San Francisco has become symbolic with today. Definitely a worthwhile experience that will make your understanding and appreciation of San Fransisco that little bit more enlightened as you delve into one of the world's most sexually diverse places to live till today. The guide's knowledge, trivia and enthusiasm for the city's history is thorough and offers an insight that will leave you that little bit more enlightened as you walk through this bustling and vibrant neighbourhood. Very worthwhile experience for the price tag and the walk is very easy for people of all fitness levels. Tips: - Bring a bottle of water and sunscreen. - Maybe check the group is not too big on the day so you have chance to ask questions
