We met for the trolley tour at the Visitors Center. The “pay to park” kiosk took a little while to figure out, but I finally got it. The tour was pleasant since it was morning; Kathleen was our guide and she was very knowledgeable. It seemed like we went around the same places more than once but I think that was because many of the squares were similar looking! We ate lunch during the “layover” between the trolley tour and cruise and had time to browse the shops and walk around. The river cruise was also informative, but it was very hot on the top deck, even under an umbrella; we sat up there because there were no seats by the windows on the 3rd deck. The frozen (non-alcohol) lemonade was good, but pricey at $10 each and it gave us both a brain freeze! We could not take the heat any longer and went downstairs and were able to snag a table by the window for the last half hour of the cruise. I liked seeing the shipping containers on the ship heading out to sea; that was impressive! After the cruise we were unsure what to do to get back to the Visitors Center. The website info said that you have to use the free DOT shuttle or alternate transportation, but I was told by the rep that called to confirm our reservation that they do provide transportation. We stopped at the stand outside the cruise “office” and they told us to go stand under the tunnel down the street and a shuttle would be by to pick us up soon. We waited about 20 minutes or more and the shuttle finally came and did hotel drop offs and we finally made it back to the Visitors Center about an hour after the end of the cruise. While we did enjoy the trolley tour and cruise, I did not personally find there to be a seamless connection between the two and I also think they need to update the info on the website to say that they do provide transportation back to hotels and the Visitors Center following the cruise.
