Экскурсия по кладбищу Лорел Гроув в Саванне

Обзор
Often called The Hidden Gem & is the local's favorite cemetery!.This former plantation turned 67-acre cemetery, is Savannah's most pristine, gothic and untouched that sold out in The Victorian Age. It contains more stylized mausoleum chapels than any city cemetery, has the area's true Civil War sections, including prominent Gettysburg heroes, and is a refuge to the city's grandest and most decorative ironwork fences. It was the most inclusive of all of the cemeteries ranging in the city's wealthiest right down to a Stranger's Lot, Jewish section, slave section, Babyland, best representing the small tight-knit city. The cast of characters includes Girl Scout's founder, Juliette Low. Jingle Bell's author, James Pierpont. Savannah's original greeter, The Waving Girl. An ironclad shipbuilder, Henry Willink. Author Kahlil Gibran's benefactress, Mary Haskell. Great Women's History here. Most days our tour is the only group of living found in the cemetery giving it an incredibly private feel!

I reside in Macon, Georgia but am a regular traveler to Savannah, Georgia and have taken all of the ghost and cemetery tours to put it mildly and to the point where most of the guides and operators know me at least on sight and many by name. Yes, that obsessed with the place! So it had miffed me that no one was offering a daily tour in Laurel Grove Cemetery North and often voiced my dismay at the visitor centers and to various operators so it did my heart good to realize that finally there was indeed one I could take advantage of. Communication with Shannon Scott Tours was excellent and as I had taken their Bonaventure Cemetery Journey's tour several times prior, knew that I was in for a promising experience. I was certainly not let down by the experience if just because the tour was conducted by not one guide, but two, one of which was Shannon Scott himself along with Professor Richard Hodges. Both gentlemen met my family and myself at the front entrance and turned into a fascinating morning! Mr Hodges was definitely a Civil War buff and had taught the subject at college level in Georgia. He was a very formidable guide and entertained and answered questions well. Mr. Scott was there somewhat to do quality control and added information about the burial vaults and some of the other odds and ends characters that Mr. Hodges was unfamiliar with. It truly felt like a living classroom and other than a few city trucks parked nearby, we didn't see another single tourist soul in the place and very much had the place to ourselves! Laurel Grove is clearly the untapped well of history and other connectivity with this area and while Bonaventure does have all of the fame, I found that there are dimensions here that clearly stand above Bonaventure and frankly? People should see both places before claiming they've done Savannah!"

Savannah is full of beautiful cemeteries but Laurel Grove is truly its hidden gem. Nestled on the west side of town, not many visitors know that it is there but once you experience its gorgeous landscape you won't believe what you were missing. Tour guide, Richard, is a real historian and will take you back in time to the Victorian era with tales of Savannah's past. I have to stress that the landscape itself is so unique!! You really won't see another cemetery like it!

Thank you very much for joining the morning tour with Professor Hodges. With his having been a history teacher in the Georgia university program and being a native Savannahian, he brings a lot to the table and we're glad you enjoyed his work with us along with the virtues of the cemetery. We hope you will come back to see us!
