You (or at least I do!) always wonder if these kinds of excursions will be worth the price. For this one, a resounding YES. Photos don't do the Red Rock Canyon justice as to its sheer immensity. You can not tell, truly, how massive and beautiful the landscape is and how vast the SILENCE of the desert until you've been there in person. The scooters give you time to appreciate the canyon that driving through in a car will not. Also, you're sitting low and feel more grounded in the experience, pun intended :-).
Leo and Johnny are great guides, answering all the questions they must hear daily with enthusiasm and aplomb and act like its the first time they've heard that question, lol. It's obvious they have a passion for the area and love their jobs. Pick-up was as indicated on checkout for our hotel (we did not receive texts, but just trusted they'd be by sometime between 7:30 and 8 and they were :-)) They were very safety conscious and carried walkie-talkies to coordinate travel path and issues (we had no issues!). The stops were long enough to enjoy the scenery and take plenty of pics. The first break we hit the restroom and walked a short ways down one of the trails to get even closer to the ridge. At the two other stops, Leo pointed out features we would have missed if we didn't have him along.
Being November. their only trip is at 8am. We were back to our hotel for lunch at noon, perfect for our conference. They provided a blanket in each scooter (which we used!), but we were glad we had the forethought to wear long underwear, jeans, heavy jackets, tukes to cover our ears under the helmet, mittens, and sunglasses. The scooters are loud while you're driving but not so much that you can't talk to your second. At the stops, the desert swallows all the noise of passing cars and even people's voices in nearby groups.
Gotta admit, part of the fun is meeting the other tourists and driving the scooters. My friend and I switched off driving so we could both experience the thrill of the road curves. We never felt like we were going too fast or out of control. I did a lot of typical for me hand-waving at the sights as I drove, lol. We stayed in Johnny's tracks and Leo blocked traffic behind us as needed to pass bicyclists or obstacles in our path of travel. We had no problems and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Definitely recommend this tour!
