We moved to Gulfport recently and touring Beauvoir has been on our to-do list - my cousin and his wife were visiting so we all went there. The tour of the house was great. Our guide (forgot her name) was so informative and put on quite the show! Then we walked back to the cemetary and saw the Tomb of the Unknown Confederate Soldier and the rest of the graves - all with a Confederate flag on their gravesite. It was very moving. Unfortunately so were the skeeters so we had to cut it short. I'm just so glad we could visit a place remembering the Confederate States of America without any apologies. It's a large part of my personal history and I'm tired of monuments and statues being removed because some people find them unacceptable.

My wife and I just visited Beauvoir, the final home of President Jefferson Davis of the Confederate States, in Biloxi, MS. This was a great visit and we thoroughly enjoyed the history of the home (built in 1852) and it’s location right on the water’s edge ( Gulf of Mexico). The docent who took our small group through the home was informative and funny. You can also tour the outside grounds on your own if you want. Be sure to do so and visit the “writer’s cottage” where Davis wrote his memoirs (watch the history of the house video playing in the cottage). Also visit the on-grinds cemetery. There is nice gift shop with adjoining viewing room with another video playing on Jefferson Davis’ life (very well done and emotional). Also save time for the really wonderful museum next to the house. Plan on three hours to really enjoy this venue.
