Lady at the front desk gave me attitude when I asked about AARP discount that they advertise. She said no. Then charged me 10 dollars for a military discount when it is advertised for 7.50. I’m not cheap but hey if you advertise discounts then honor them. Once I got past her, it was a great tour. The tour person was in period costume and very knowledge. Unfortunately parts of it were off limits due to remodeling. If you’re into old architecture and history, it’s worth a visit.

It was very interesting to tour the Confederate Presidential Library and Museum. I have been to our US Presidential libraries, but this place Definitely gives you a different perspective from a part of our History that we don't hear too much about. The museum was very well done and the confederate history was represented in a respectful way. We went on the house tour and our docent was very informative and the tour was well done. They have done a lot of work refurbishing the home after it had been hit by hurricane Katrina. We also walked the grounds which were very nice and led to the confederate cemetery. I had mixed feelings about this area... It was nice to see that these men & women are being remembered honorably- but kinda odd to see all the grave sites marked with confederate flags.... Just strange to see. I would recommend this place if you are interested in our civil war history-- it is unique and very informative.

Reading a book on history is informative, but touching and seeing history in person brings history to life. As long as hands-on experiences are still available, I recommend that everyone should enjoy them. Standing in a home where families lived a 100 years before, listening to your tour guide tell of their lives and contributes they made to our lives, as well as their trials and tribulations. You can’t help but feel a connection to them, and admiration for them. Art and architecture, linens and appointments designed for both beauty and usefulness. I pictured a summer day where ladies in long puffy dresses walked thru the rose garden, while handsomely dressed gentlemen watched on, occasionally laughing at a whispered sentiment they had shared. Then I thought about the hardships that were endured, and compared their lives to my own. (Goodness, I have an easy life. I am spoiled). The cost of this tour is minimal. The snap shots you take with your camera or cell phone, as well as the pictures you will keep in your mind are well worth taking this adventure into our past. Hope you get a chance to visit. Debra K.
