My husband and I visited Beauvoir this morning. First, the guide was rude and seemed to delight in embarrassing the visitors when they did not know the answer to a question he asked. However, I have NEVER been on a tour in which the visitors were bombarded with so much misinformation. Either the guide was poorly educated, or he deliberately gave incorrect information. In fact, I would say over half of what he told us was not correct. Don’t waste your money if you actually want to learn something about Jefferson Davis! Just a few examples of the incorrect information that was given during the tour: • The guide stated that the clock in the hallway was a grandmother clock because it had a “waist”. FACT: A grandmother clock is distinguished from a grandfather clock only by its size. The grandmother clock is both shorter and thinner, but is the same shape. • The four on the clock was in Roman numerals but was written as IIII rather than IV. The guide stated that this was because it was a colonial clock. FACT: Even today, most clocks and watches with Roman numerals have the four written as IIII….I checked at Walmart today and found clocks with the IIII on the face. • The guide stated that Jefferson Davis rebuilt the White House after it was burned by the British. FACT: The White House was rebuilt in 1817 when Jefferson was only 9-10 years old. • There were many, many other pieces of incorrect information as well. I should have made a list!

No tour only a 30 minute talk about the property. You had to tour yourself to the 2 other cottages and you had to look through the window. One of the bedrooms was out of order and the balcony. Fence broken, not kept up at all
