Make sure you meet the guide at the exact location. It is NOT at the Arch itself but rather several blocks away at the plaza identified in the tour details. Melissa was our guide and she has lived in St Louis all her life so she really knew her “stuff” To our surprise we were her only customers so we had a private tour. After looking at the Arch and the windowless elevator capsule you ride up in we had second thoughts about taking the ride to the top. Melissa changed her plans and we did the walking tour of the neighborhood first (about an hour) but then she got us back for the 11;00 movie at the Arch. Movie was every hour on the hour and lasted about 30 minutes. She got the movie tickets for us. It was worth the extra money to have her point out the surrounding landmarks in the area but you could have definitely done the arch itself on your own for way less money. Our fault that we paid for the ride up but chose not to take it. If you are a National Park member you get a discount on the trip to the top as well as the movie.

Excellent choice for a tourist activity. The guide was wonderful; walked at a comfortable pace, was very knowledgeable, fluent English. Saw so many historical things. The stop inside to see the bank exhibit was an added bonus. Of course, the views from the Arch were what the walk was all about. Would highly recommend.

The tour was great. Downtown st louis seems to lose it's Lustre. Building windows are all boarded up, graffiti galore! But we had wonderful time at the Arch. Amazing view of the Mississippi River and the city
