The Jungle Prada Site History Tour is a historian-led walking tour of a private seaside garden and featuring the best-preserved American Indian mound in Tampa Bay. The Jungle Prada Site Complex is also thought to be the landing place of the 1528 expedition led by Pánfilo de Narváez, the survivors of which walked from Florida all the way to the Pacific Ocean (1528 – 1536). The privately-owned Anderson Mound has been lovingly preserved by members of the Anderson family for over 80 years.

You’ll meet wild peacocks, discover native plants used by the Tocobaga people, and explore a side of St. Petersburg, Florida you never knew existed!

It’s educational and interesting. Rustic jungle walk. The informational talks may be too long for kids younger than 10 years old.

I'm so glad we discovered this wonderful little tour. David, our guide, is a wealth of information about the original inhabitants of this property more than 1000 years ago, their eventual, and very momentous, meeting with the Spanish conquistadors, and his own family, which has owned it since the 1940s. Beyond that, the property is quite scenic and, on this particular March day, restful and peaceful. When you get tired of golfing, gift shops, hordes of tourists, and Florida's constant traffic, give yourself a nice little break and take this 75 minute woodsy history lesson. You will come away refreshed and a little bit better informed about Saint Pete history and its precious ecosystem. Also, peacocks! Lots of them. .

WOW I found this activity during a "things to do" in St. Pete generic search. Price was right (well worth it!) and schedule worked. It was amazing and offered lots of local history on Native American (1000-1500 AD) and Spanish conquistador interactions. Also, family ownership history of the property presented by David (third generation) was very interesting. His entrepreneur grandfather purchased it in 1940 and his father still lives there and maintains the property. Peacocks were very active and proud of their plumage. Very personal experience since we had a small (6) tour group. About 20 % of tour path could be tough for walking impaired. We did the 11:30 tour, finished by about 1:00, then had lunch at the restaurant next door. It was also excellent. Very convenient parking included.
