Prior to my trip to Salem, I spent alot of time researching different types of activities in which to participate. Upon seeing the opportunity of touring the famed Salem, MA with a real witch in the Salem tour guide, I signed up as it sounded like a lot of fun. The tour guide, Samantha, while being a lifelong practitioner of Wicca, showed a wonderful attitude, an easy smile, and a terrific outgoing personality. The tour group of which I was a part ranged in age from 6 through early 70's, and she easily walked the tightrope of engaging all of us with her factual presentation of both Wicca and the Witch Trials through her use of laughter, demonstration, and old and new movie/television references. Her ability to reach all ages really showed during the walk through the Olde Pointe Cemetery and Witch Trials Memorial, and she was sure to explain many of the common images/beliefs of witches that are found throughout our culture.
All around Salem, there are many tours and museums dedicated to the happenings of 1692. However, no matter how old you are, if you want to experience a taste of the modern day Wiccan practices, do add this tour to your list.
