Madrid produced the coal that both built the Bomb and inspired Walt Disney. Abandoned as a ghost town for many years, it was reborn as a thriving artistic community. The Oral History Tour lets you hear Madrid’s stories, as told by the people who lived them. Using smartphone technology, it plays the audio automatically, at exactly the right time and place.

All dimensions of Madrid’s peculiar, multifaceted story are explored: from an eyewitness account of union-busting violence, to that time the brand-new fire engine accidentally burned down the firehouse. The Oral History Tour was distilled from seventy hours of interviews, and endures as a preserved collective memory of this unique New Mexican treasure.

The tour is easily and instantly downloaded from any of the many WiFi spots all over town. The tour itself is done offline, so there's no need for a phone signal. This audio tour took us about 2 hours and is packed with wild firsthand accounts of this unique town over the years. Midway through we stopped, had lunch, and kept on going!

There's no service in Madrid for cell phones so NO Audio! NO Nothing...Nobody could help or knew anything about it....What a Total RIP OFF!!!!!!

First, let me say that the author and the people interviewed were entertaining and informative. The street of Madrid is a busy, dangerous, well used street by trucks and cars flying by. There are no sidewalks and parts of this tour could be dangerous without using a car and pulling over. Cute town where Wild Hogs was taped. Note: nearest gas station is 8 miles away.
