I emailed this review directly to Star of Honolulu immediately after our cruise on 8/3 and have received no response from the company to date:
My family and I just finished our Star of Honolulu sunset cruise this evening. While we were very excited for the cruise, we were shocked at the lack of COVID-19 safety protocol to the point we spent the last 30-40 minutes of the trip outside on the decks with our masks on to be safe. The staff all were wearing masks, but then encouraged guests to get up and dance, sing, and shout with no masks on, all while being in an enclosed space. By the end of the evening, guests were on the dance floor without any masks. We just went to a local restaurant that told all guests it was against state law to even get up and dance even at their table, so not sure where the disconnect is with establishments.
Also, there were no announcements or signs that guests should wear masks any time leaving their seats to move around or use the bathrooms. There were safety announcements at the beginning of the cruise, but no mention of masks. Instructions, signage, and enforcement by staff would have made a huge difference considering we are in a Pandemic.
The utter lack of safety and preventive measures were shocking and in direct opposition to every other establishment we have visited since arriving in Hawaii 4 days ago. This is a huge disappointment and I am quite concerned for my and my family's safety after having been on this cruise. We went to a lot of lengths to get to Hawaii and should feel safe being here. I will not be recommending this cruise to anyone.
