Punalu'u Black Sand beach
Have you ever seen a beach with black sand? Because of constant volcanic activity, you'll find white sands and black sands on the island of Hawaii. Located on the southeastern Ka'u coast, Punaluu Black Sand Beach is one of the most famous black sand beaches in Hawaii. Located between the towns of Pahala and Naalehu in Ka'u, Punaluu Black Sand Beach's jet black shores are an unforgettable sight. Coconut palms fringe the upper edge of sand and you may also discover large Honu, (Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles), basking on the beach.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park protects some of the most unique geological, biological, and cultural landscapes in the world. The park encompasses the summits of the world's most active volcano, Kīlauea. The only comprehensive Park Tour available. Tour the Park and the entire Chain of Craters Road from Summit to Sea.
5
Rainbow Falls
On sunny days, rainbows appear in the mist of the 80-foot falls, making for some pretty magical views. The broad waterfall — nearly 100 feet in diameter — plunges over a natural lava cave and into the river below. When it rains, (which it often does in Hilo), the engorged Wailuku River makes the falls wider, muddier and louder. On these days, you won’t see the rainbows for which this spot is named, but the sheer volume of water and the accessibility of this spot for all ages make it a fun, quick and easy excursion.

Saddle Road
Saddle Road, Hawaii, is considered among the most spectacular roads in the world. This is 55-mile drive of a chance of a lifetime experience. Hawaii’s Route 200 goes through all four of her climates – tropical forests, arid desert, lush grasslands and misty mountaintop fog. Between miles 19 and 23, you’ll see a few places with lava flows and young vegetation and trees. Near the road you can see where lava thickened and left the telltale mounds of a slowing flow. Just after mile 23, you’ll come close to a popular local landmark, Pu`u Huluhulu, which is an older Mauna Kea cinder cone, or kīpuka, and it’s surrounded by younger lava flows. At this point, you’re near the peak height for Saddle Road, about 1.25 miles in elevation – 6,632 feet. From here, you’ll continue through the volcanic aftermath of hundreds of thousands of years of lava activity as you head toward Belt Road, where you’ll eventually descend into Kona or Waikoloa.

Eric and Zane did an amazing job personalizing a day of adventure, learning and fun for our family (adults and teens). Eric and Zane are incredibly passionate about their jobs as tour guides and their love for geology came out in the tour. I'm not someone who typically gets excited about geology, but they made the day a great learning experience with many happy memories. Our family appreciated their humor, vast amounts of information, and flexibility to meet our interests and needs throughout the tour. I highly recommend learning about beautiful Volcano National Park with Eric and Zane. They are true professionals in their work!

Eric and Zane were incredibly knowledgeable and because of their background in geology, we got an experience like no other. It was the perfect combination of education, entertainment and fun and they basically take all of the logistical work out of it by providing all the transportation, lunch and itinerary. We sat back, relaxed and went along for the ride which included amazing bonus stops at a winery and an orchid greenhouse.

Zane and Erik were fantastic tour guides who customized the tour to maximize our time and get the tour we wanted. We were a group of 8 with 3 teens and 5 adults. They picked us up in their brand new passenger van with comfy seats, plenty of air conditioning, and plenty of snacks, drinks and even a lunch made by one of the island restaurants that we pre-ordered. We were on the opposite side of the Island from most tourist attractions, so we were able to extend our time with Erik and Zane and take advantage of more time in the Park and stop by Akatsuka Orchid Gardens and a local winery. The knowledge and passion that Erik and Zane as geologists have about Volcano National Park and Volcanoes in general is truly impressive. We learned so much without it feeling like a lecture. Even our 3 teenagers were engaged the entire day! We were able to go to areas that other tours don't access and learn more with the smaller group than we could have on our own or in a much larger group. They addressed every detail and more that we could have thought of even down to having sunscreen. They also were great with communications and even helped guide us to the Isaac Hale Beach Park and assisted us with other questions and planning on the remainder of our trip. i cannot recommend these guys enough! You will not regret your time or money spent with Hawaii Geo Tours. it was one of the highlights of our entire trip!
