This is a two part excursion - first (for us, order may be reversed, I believe) is a super informative and fun ride through the Mahoney Glacial Cirque where we learned lots from our guide about the history of fishing and canning in the area - we even saw an old Libby cannery - very cool! We saw lots of eagles and our guide through out some food for them, affording us exciting viewing opportunities as they swooped past our boat. We also saw loads of seals and sea lions. The boat then stopped at the crab pots where our guide pulled up a cage, filled with about 8 crabs. Whoever wanted to hold one, examine one, pose for pictures with one etc, was able to do so. Then, they were all set free back into the water. Videos of historical fishing methods, canneries in the area etc, were shown throughout as a further way to inform us. All quite good! We then went to George Inlet Lodge for an all you can eat Dungeness crab lunch - and it definitely was all you can eat - no problem at all getting more crab as our friendly servers came around to the table often to see how we were doing and if we wanted more of anything. At the end, all of the tables stacked their crab shells and one of the servers went around and measured the shell towers to see who's was the highest! A very fun and informative time.
