I have been to Williamsburg several times to visit my friend who lives here. We purchased the Groupon to have the experience of tasting food in Merchant Square. The Groupon was $43 and when you make the reservation online, there is an additional charge of $5 for tax per person and they ask for a tip of $8 per person to cover the food. Those additional costs were a surprise. It would have been nice to have seen that in the Groupon information to help decide whether to purchase the Groupon for what actually amounts to a total charge of $69 for two people.
Several people have already commented that some of the places (Candy Shoppe, Peanut Shoppe, Tea Shoppe) offer samples to the visiting public so there were no special treats there. Seasons Restaurant offered a small portion of outstanding ribs with a taste of their baked beans. I could have eaten about five more portions. The Blue Talon provided a decent portion of their fabulous Mac 'N Cheese. The yogurt shop gave each of us a small yogurt with three toppings. This comprised the Merchant Square Tour. I'm not sure that it was worth the price of the Groupon and I'm positive that it was not worth the original price of $43 per person plus tax and tip.
The owner gave our group a wonderful Christmas present and told our tour guide, John, to give us the William and Mary Tour as well.
John, our tour guide, was amazing. He was friendly, knowledgeable and had a wonderful sense of humor. He gave us a great tour of William and Mary with a lot of history and side comments. I loved seeing the college and the grounds. We were extremely lucky and saw a wedding party leaving the chapel. To end this segment of the tour, we were taken to College Deli where we had a sub called the Holly. It was a popular favorite and a bit hit with our group.
The day couldn't have been more perfect for our tour and our group of 10 was a terrific blend of family, couples and friends.
The add-on of the College Campus and the College Deli really made this tour a wonderful experience.
