Your experience is very unique because it is on a specifically designed whale watching boat. There will be only up to 13 guests aboard so there is plenty of room inside and out for everyone. Your experienced captain is a local resident with a great deal of knowledge of the wildlife and area, and lots of good stories to tell. Our tour length ensures that you have plenty of time to relax and enjoy the beauty of our area and the incredible wildlife. We’ve been sharing our part of the world with enthusiastic guests for over 25 years and would love to share it with you, too.

Hoonah

We will meet you at the Excursions Hub and transport you in our van to Hoonah (a 5-minute drive), where you will board the boat for your whale and wildlife tour. After returning to the harbor, you'll be met by the van and driven back to Icy Strait Point.

So we are scheduled to tour with this company in June 2025. I am popping on early to rave about the customer service and communication we have already received. We are a family of 4 with two teens. When I booked a few weeks ago, our preferred time was not available. I booked the available time, and sent them an email request for a change if possible. They were quick to respond. A couple weeks later they reached out again to let us know that they were adding a tour close to our preferred time. They switched this seamlessly for us. We are so excited for a small group whale watching tour. Their service provided already makes me feel like a valued customer and confident we will have a wonderful time and return to the ship without trouble.

WOW, what an amazing tour we did with Glacier Wind Charters!! We were a small group on the smaller boat and had such a wonderful time. We saw many whales and their tails, a bear on the shoreline and lots of harbor seals. Pictures only show a fraction of the beauty of nature and its creatures in their natural habitats. 1000% recommend this tour to anyone that has a stop in Icy Straight Point / Hoonah!

We recently made a repeat visit to Icy Strait Point and our first order of business was to book another excursion with glacier Wind Chaters. Teresa promptly met us at the cruise terminal, and while the weather wasn't very good, we went off on the custom-built vessel with 4 other people. Captain Shawn was again our pilot, and we were off in the rain & mist searching for whales. On our three hour tour we encountered three whales, several Stellar Sea Lions, & sea otters. The Orcas proved elusive. If you visit Icy Strait Point, you can not have a better experience than what you receive with Glacier Wind Charters. They treat you like family. I cannot recommend them highly enough. If you don't want to miss out, book early. We booked 17 months in advance!
