Splash through Durango with an awesome river guide on the Lower Animas River! This adventure is an absolute must for visitors and locals alike.

Everyone loves this trip for its accessibility, picturesque scenery and rollicking rapids. It’s an adventure that offers a perfect mix of excitement and time to enjoy the sites along the way. We take rafters ages 4+!

Along the way you'll bound through plenty of Class II rapids and an exciting Class III at Smelter Whitewater Park. Class II rapids are "fun and friendly," rolling over the bow and dousing those at the front of the boat. Class III rapids are "wet and wild," usually soaking everyone in the raft head to toe.

Our experienced and entertaining river guides will get you downstream while sharing plenty of stories and fascinating history about the area. You're welcome to paddle with them or just sit back and relax

All trips come with a safety orientation and paddling instructions from the best river guides in Durango.

Your fun, knowledgeable and experienced river guides will get you fitted for a life jacket, helmet, and other river getup if needed (wetsuits when the weather/water is chilly). We'll then shuttle over to the river and have a quick safety orientation before heading out on the beautiful Animas River for an hour. We'll splash through plenty of refreshing Class II rapids, and one exciting Class III as we paddle downstream. Class II rapids are "fun and friendly" splashing those at the front of the boat, while Class III are "wet and fun" soaking everyone head to toe. Spring trips usually have higher flows with bigger splashes, while summer tends to have lower flows with more mild splashes. We booked this rafting trip the day after the 4th of July. Not knowing what to expect we were pleasantly surprised with genuinely friendly staff. We are all used to employees making forced conversations but the people who work for Mild to Wild were genuinely interested in having conversations and assisting in any way they could. Getting to Mild to Wild was easy and finding parking wasn't bad. There were people everywhere since they had multiple trips departing at the same time. Despite the chaos we were able to get paddles, life jackets, and helmets without issue. We all got on a bus and a short trip later were at our launching point. There were several companies launching from the same point but the guides were experienced in keeping our group together. We received a safety brief from Rio who ended up being our boat guide. He was very knowledgeable and kept the information concise, only repeating the crucial things people need to remember (never stand in the river). We then were separated by boat and given to our guides for further detailed instruction. Rio gave us additional briefing including row commands and how to work as a team. His love for the river and his job was immediately apparent. You could see through his smile that he loved his job and would provide the best experience possible to share that love with everyone on his boat. Once we took off we practiced different maneuvers and began white water rafting. We had a great time, everyone got wet, and Rio explained a lot of information about the river and what he was doing. Rio gave us options on whether we wanted to challenge ourselves or just relax (we chose a challenge). He listened to what we wanted and did a great job guiding our experience. We would definitely do this again with Rio and I highly recommend you ask for him if you have any nervousness about rafting or want to challenge yourself. He has a ton of experience and his passion for rafting will help make your experience memorable.

We booked a river rafting trip with Mild to Wild and the whole experience was fantastic! Booking was simple and affordable, and we were able to get the day and time we needed for our trip. The entire staff was great! We were greeted promptly upon arrival and were given great directions until we departed. Our guide, Lucy, was fantastic! She kept us informed, entertained and safe the entire time! She was extremely knowledgeable and pleasant, and we enjoyed our time on the Animas immensely because of her and her colleagues, Jackson and Trey. If you want a TRUE adventure, book a rafting tour with Mild to Wild - you won't be disappointed!
