All Gone Surfing Hawaii lessons start on the sand with ocean awareness and safety. Then we get you right into the surf for a rush of wind and waves. No worries, our licensed instructors are trained in first aid and lifeguard CPR. Once in the water, we show you how to read the waves, position your take off, and the etiquette of wave riding. Whether you’re a one-on-one type or you prefer fun with friends, our customized lessons are built to make your adventure on the waves one to remember.

We reserved a semi-private surfing lesson for three of our family members in late June. I reserved online the day before and we showed up at their location (easy to find!) about 15 minutes early. Check in was easy, and they had a locker for shoes, phones, etc right by their desk that is manned at all times. We brought water shoes, but were told that you could "feel the board" better without them and left them in the locker. Trevor was ready in a flash and the lessons started early. My husband (mid-50's) and two adult children obviously had different abilities and Trevor worked with them all to make them feel comfortable on their boards on land before going out in the water. After 20 or so minutes on land, they paddled out to catch some waves for the rest of the time. It was so tiring, my 20 year-old daughter was definitely ready to come in at the end of the time, but she had a blast! They do offer photography for an extra price, which I thought was a bit pricey and decided to take my own pictures from shore with our extra long lens. Afterwards I realized I took many pictures of the wrong people! (It is VERY hard to see much from the shore.) So if you have the budget for it, I would get their photographer.

My wife & I travelled to Oahu with our son, Jay, for his 21st birthday. For most of the trip, we stayed in Ko Olina. But on the last night, we stayed in Waikiki. On recommendation from a friend, we scheduled a surfing lesson for Jay. His instructor was Trevor. Super nice guy. Check-in was a breeze - right on the beach. Could not have been easier. They have a photographer in the water to get some great photos and videos. Jay had a blast. I would absolutely recommend Gone Surfing Hawaii!!!

I don't write TripAdvisor reviews often, but I wanted to ensure Gone Surfing got my review this time!! Gone Surfing was a great choice for our first time surfing lesson. I did a lot of research with all the surf schools in the area including cheaper options, but I decided to go with Gone Surfing and did not leave disappointed! The current was tough, but our instructor was awesome and helped us catch a few waves on our first try! The pre-surfing talk on the beach to go over the basics and safety was helpful! The class started and ended on time, and overall we had a great time! We brought our own rashguards but they had plenty there to use if you do not have your own. Be sure to drink water beforehand, it's a LOT of paddling! The company also offers a photographer to capture the experience, and now we have photos to remember our time! Would highly recommend.
