A visiting friend and I opted for the two day hop on hop off SF tour. Our first guide, Suzanne, was amazingly energetic and really knew her SF history - she was a 10 for sure. We did the whole circle tour with her.
The next day we took the basic tour to the GG Bridge, and the Sausalito tour from there. Both just fine After that we went to the tour of the park and beaches; it was far less than satisfactory and one of the reasons we didn't give and overall 5 rating. The driver never introduced himself or shared information. He just drove....first to the golf course and the Palace of the Legion of Honor (only he never mentioned either except to pull up in front and say "Legion of Honor." No mention of the exhibits inside, how it got built, the "Thinker" statue...nothing.
From there we drove to the first beach stop, which I know was Land's End (I live here). He never said where we were. All he said was "Ten minutes; bathrooms there and and gift shop there."
Once back on board, he drove to Ocean Beach, pulled over, said "Ocean Beach and when no one got off, drove on to the zoo, where he said "San Francisco Zoo." Then back across the west end of GG Park. He never said the east end is closed on
Sunday to motorized traffic, never offered any information of any kind, no stories, no history, no commentary whatsoever. This was not a tour; it was a bus ride and an utter disappointment.
The second reason for a less than five rating was the person at the ticket office on Columbus who was equally as limited with words. When we asked for a restroom, she said "Out the door and to the left at Starbuck's" failing to add that Satrbucks was two blocks away! We used the restroom at the Cannery across the street. Her answer to where we picked up our bus was "across the park and to the left"....it would have been helpful for to be a bit more specific, the name of the street maybe? She was our first encounter with City Tours, our driver for the beach "tour" the last. Both less than communicative and in between...very good.
