During our 2nd visit to the Asheville area last week, I took a 3 hour segway tour of the downtown area with Moving Sidewalk Tours. I was lucky having booked the 9AM tour on a Monday morning, and was the only member of the tour along with the guide, Wes. It was great!
I've been on segways before, but this was my first introduction to the second generation (and it's lots more fun!) The machines are just a blast to use, and very intuitive.
Wes was very knowledgeable about the area and its history, pointing out buildings with details and funny stories. Half the people we passed seemed to know who he was, and everyone noticed the segways (expecially the schoolchildren on their way to an event downtown, who could not stop pointing and asking questions.)
I've used segways in Orlando and Washington DC (which is also a good city in which to take a tour.) Asheville is, of course, much smaller, but the Moving Sidewalk people give you a thumbnail sketch in the time of the tour, describing restaurants, shopping and cultural activities, in the midst of the busy downtown. I'd use them again.
