This tour was nothing as expected. We assumed it would be a tour with a history of the what occurred on 9/11, what led up to it, the cleanup and then the reconstruction of the new Freedom Tower. Instead, the tour started with a 25 minute long varied history lesson of New York and slavery and it had nothing to do with the 9/11 memorial or what occurred. This was all done while standing in a subway station.
Instead of going through what led up to the tragic events of 9/11 and the rebuilding of the site, we got a politically charged lesson on the poor choices this country has made as well as poor choices that some corporations have made with regards to slavery. Further, there was more political opinions about the war after 9/11 and some well know figures that were involved in the tragedy.
The tour should have talked about 9/11 and all of the importance around that event. We did not go there for a political history lesson and the guide's personal political views about the past and today. It was unfortunate, but the only good thing about the tour was the end and our ticket to the 9/11 Museum. Now the museum was truly impressive.
