Considering we had been to LA so many times before, we had never visited the La Brea Tarpits. Firstly – parking here is SUPER expensive for only a couple of hours visit, find parking on 6th street for free! We paid our entrance fee and upgraded to the 3D movie.
We then proceeded to a guided tour, which we were told would finish 10mins or so before the start of the movie. Our tour guide, Becca, was incredibly good, very knowledgeable and gave a fantastic tour, and we learnt a lot and were encouraged to ask lots of questions. If you don’t want to do the tour, there are lots of information boards around the museum for reading and learning. The tour ran over, and we got to our show late and had to be rebooked. The girls at the cinema entrance failed to understand when we said can we simply wait to one side to see if anyone doesn’t show rather than having to rebook and wait around…..they simply refused which we thought was rude and unhelpful. Anyway, we later got to see the show – and take our advice, don’t pay the $6 extra, it really isn’t worth it, with only small elements of the show being 3D and the show being nothing more than a National Geographic episode. Overpriced and not worth it, this really should be included as part of the ticket price!
Overall, we enjoyed the visit, seeing the palaeontologists working up close was also cool, and the smell of the tar really elevated the whole experience. The inside museum was also cool, with a huge number of fossils on display. Sadly, we visited the gift shop, but the prices were sky high, so we simply left.
We enjoyed our visit, and would recommend to all ages, very interesting experience!
