C.M. Russell Museum
Born in 1864 in St. Louis, Charles M. Russell grew up fascinated by tales of the Wild West. He traveled to Montana in 1880 and made a life on the frontier, working first as a cowboy and then a night wrangler, leaving his days free to observe and sketch working cowboys. Once a full-time artist, Russell moved with his wife the short distance from Cascade to Great Falls, where he built his home and studio. Over the course of his life he created around 4,000 works of art that reside in both public and private collections throughout the country.    Although primarily focused on the works of the local artist, the C.M. Russell Museum also includes numerous collections of other western artists whose works complemented the themes that so intrigued Russell throughout his lifetime as well as the original Russell Home and Studio.

Don't miss this art museum! We are so glad that a Montana friend told us to come. We kind of knew who Charlie Russell was but had no idea of his full story and the beauty and drama of his work. We also appreciated the other art & artists discussed in the museum that provided context to C.W. Russell's work. And his wife's story too. Wow, wow, wow. Give yourself at least a couple hours and immerse yourself in the old west. But if you have less time, still go!

This is a most excellent museum and gives you a real insight in Russell, and, of course, showcases alot of his work. In addition to main museum, you can visit Russell's house and studio where they have been carefullly preserved. There is free parking on the street around the museum in a lovely leafy suburb of Great Falls Really enjoyed ourvisit.

All good. Used Viator several times before. All went well every time. All very efficient and no issues wherever we went.
