This incredible wildlife corridor was also home to an old logging and whiskey distilling community during Prohibition. Who knew the OBX had black bear and endangered red wolves? We went on the 8:00 tour with Olivia, who is an excellent guide. We were a small group (4) so in addition to the tour information, we were able to ask questions too. We didn't see much wildlife but I was mostly there for the padding and information.

My boyfriend and I took a tour of the alligator river with us and Victoria and it was the most amazing kayaking trip ever! The weather was iffy but she was up for the adventure and we all got rained on in the trails (which felt incredible after working up a sweat)! We also totally messed up the GPS the day prior and missed our first tour but the customer service was on point and Heather really helped us out which we were incredibly thankful for. Will be working with this company again on our next trip for sure! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

The price and timing of our tour was why we chose KHKSS, but we were disappointed by the tour guide and plan. We arrived at our location and it was us and another tour company. We immediately noticed we should have chosen the competitor, which we have used before and loved. Our kayaks were old and not in great shape. The tandems were huge and very hard to navigate in. Scotty, our tour guide was our main issue. It was very windy so we didn't go out on the open waters, which was fine with us and we liked the "back" area. However, Scotty didn't help everyone into their kayaks, especially the women in the tandems. Then he spent the whole tour chatting with people but not actually being a guide and looking for wildlife or talking about the area to the group. Then we moved into a large more calm open area and we just got out to the middle of the area and sat there. We thought we were going somewhere, but alas when we got out to the middle, Scotty kicked back with his feet up on his kayak and chatted for about 15+ mins. Nothing guide like from him at all. Then we went back the way we came and were left to help each other out of the kayaks again. We will never use this tour company again and we come yearly.
