Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend is the intimate Grand Canyon experience (although technically located in Glen Canyon.) The trailhead to this 3/4 mile hike is located just outside of Page, Arizona. It overlooks one of the most spectacular views on the Colorado River, 4 miles south of the Glen Canyon Dam, and 7 miles north of mile zero of the Grand Canyon.

Pro: The drive was long, but the driver knew the road well. The tour with our Navajo tour guide, Leland through the antelope Canyon was amazing. He was so knowledgeable and patient. He also was a master at taking pictures at just the right place and angle (which he generously did for everyone in our group). This was the highlight of the entire day and the only reason I gave this tour 3 stars. Lunch was good. Con: The stop at Horseshoe Bend was unimpressive. By the end of our trip I knew more about our drivers life than I wanted. Born in Brooklyn; wife and him not compatible signs, but their moon rising makes it work; stint in the Marines; lived in Ca, NV, NC, and other places. He had several friends named Tye; his decision to move to AZ not supported by all his friends. Hasn’t returned to visit his family in years; didn’t go to his HS reunion; his dog named ‘Nana’; I could go on. He talked the entire trip home after he told us he would play the radio for a relaxing trip home, only answering any questions we may have. He spoke a bit on the outbound trip about the reservation, the hogans and a bit about the formation of the land. I could used a lot more of that kind of info and historical facts vs personal info.

This tour is amazing!! We had Steve as our initial driver for our pick up in Sedona and he was so full of knowledge and told us about so much history of Arizona, the area, the Navajo, and kept us entertained. Once we got to Antelope Canyon, we had Tim as our guide. Tim was also so informative and was so kind to take our cameras and helped get the picture just right for the best lighting. It was a long bus ride there from Sedona but wouldn't change a thing. The canyon is totally amazing. The ride to get to the canyon was a hoot. Tim definitely had fun trying to hit every bump for our group. Steve took us to lunch and it was at a sit down restaurant that was totally yummy. You get to pick from options on a menu. Something for everyone. HIGHLY Recommend. You won't be disappointed.

Antelope Canyon was fantastic! The only thing we disagreed with is paying almost $600 for 2 peopel and then being asked to tip 20%...
