Loved the tour; Brian, our tour guide was great and our group turned out to be awesome! Playful banter, lots of laughs, everyone was receptive to others needs, temperature preferences etc.
Navajo guide, Amaar, seemed to be fine and we perfectly understood that due to time restriction, he could take group pics for us all and that there were 1-2 locations where solo pics would be possible.
I was traveling with a good friend and while initially we were ok with couple of pics of both of us but then we really did want solo pics. So we excused ourselves from Group pics and took each others pics when possible. We made sure not to take our own sweet time as we knew we had to stay with the group. In fact I never got a complete, good shot of myself. Amaar, the Navajo guide, seemed to be constantly calling us out to move quickly. My friend and I also noticed that the group behind us were taking more time and a lot of solo shots. During the entire time in Antelope Canyon, Amaar never told anyone when it was a good time to take solo shots, even though he had mentioned early on that solo pics would be possible in 1-2 places. So when we got out of the canyon, we were surprised as we had been made to rush throughout, and when we asked him as to where the locations for solo shots were which he had mentioned earlier, he said they were everywhere, so we asked why didn’t he tell us that we had time for solo pics, and he didn’t even bother to answer.
It became very clear that we were being discriminated against after 1 incident. My friend is over 60 and while we both are active but I and she were both a bit slow. On top of that we generally stayed behind as at all stops in the canyon, Amaar would stop to take group pics so we got a chance to try to take solo pics only afterwards. When we got out of the canyon, at a turn, there was a cactus with beautiful flower blooming on top. A couple stopped to admire it and take pics. We saw that Amaar smiled and let them continue, but the moment we reached there, and went near to see it, take pics, he started rushing us and just started walking saying we need to keep moving as there are more groups of people behind us - but actually for a long time, there wasn’t anybody and till we came down and entered jeep, we didn’t see anyone come out - as we had been rushed and the other groups were taking more reasonable time to enjoy the canyon.
This experience was very upsetting and for both my friend and I, it was probably once in our lifetime that we went to Antelope. While we had admired seeing others solo pics at Antelope but unfortunately had to tell them the sad reason why we didn’t have good solo pics.
