With wingspans that can reach more than 20 feet (6 meters) across, manta rays have no teeth or barb on the tail. This was the top thing I wanted to do in Hawaii. We planned vacationing in Kauai, but I want to go to the big island just for this experience . We did it night one and so glad we did! My entire family loved it, even the ones that were a little nervous to get into the ocean at night. This is some thing I will do every time I come back ..it was truly magical to watch them dance. Our tour guides were amazing. We felt completely safe. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Incredible, too many rays to count and a playful dolphin joined in on the fun. Quick 15 minute boat ride out, crew was great.

I agree.....JUST DO IT! The manta experience may not be allowed for much longer.....same as we are now not allowed to snorkel with dolphins anymore.

This was a scary snorkeling experience and I think it was due to lack of adequate staffing. Our boat appeared full with about 20 people and then at least 10 more people joined as part of the group last minute. I'm not sure if 2 tour groups got consolidated, but it was too many to do an organized snorkel. The crew was great, but not much instruction was given about what was going to happen and no one to really ask. The group that came in at the end did not appear to understand the instructions and were screaming as they jumped off the boat and appeared to be crying/continuing to scream as they were in the water. It totally scared my 6 year old son. The crew kept asking the people to stop screaming and to slowly glide out of the boat, but it was of no use. By the time my son and I got into the water, our snorkels were falling off our faces, but hard to adjust with the waves on us. In addition, there was no crew member to help us for several minutes. In that time, my son's pool noodle started to float away as did mine. It's dark and hard to see mixed with the waves and the screaming. I think the crew did their best, but they were grossly outnumbered. I would not recommend this if you are not a confident swimmer. I chose this group because I thought it would be the safest (life jackets provided for adults and children). Ultimately, we did see manta rays, a beautiful sunset, and got hot cocoa with a gorgeous view of stars on our way back. However, I'm still not sure it was worth it with all the panic my family felt while it occurred. Again, the crew was awesome, but they were outnumbered.

This may have been the night, because another company broke down and we band together to help one another. Sorry for the inconvenience of other passengers not listening 😒
