it’s hard to say what does Touro would’ve been like had we had a competent tour guide, but we were on a 2pm tour on 8/17/22, and got stuck with “Mack” (that was the name he announced, but his name tag said Wayne.)
It’s hard to express how bad this guy was- very little information imparted about Boston- mostly cringe-worthy “jokes” and person details about him (his wife likes fish, but has to go out to eat with her sister, because he hates fish and won’t take her).
The lowlight of the tour was when he harassed a visiting teenage girl from Iceland for having the audacity to wear a Yankees cap, but the general feeling was that he made “facts” up as he went along (the Boston library is the biggest library in the country, Edgar Allen Poe wrote horror movies, and the fictional door that Rose floated on at the end of Titanic was, in fact, intended for the Copley Plaza hotel.)
My favorite comment from him was an unintentional math lesson for the kiddies (and I quote, having had my iphone recording a movie as he said this): “… and when they built it, they built about 3500- alright… two thirds of them went to war, and the other two thirds…. basically…. they’re yours.”
He was awful and annoying, when not being offensive. If you find yourself on his vehicle, do your best to rebook on another.
Horrible trip- my entire family couldn’t wait to get off.
