Visited Boston for a girl's weekend with three friends the week before Halloween. Based on the reviews here, we booked the Ghosts & Gravestones Night-Time Trolley Tour. Unfortunately, we felt that it did not live up to the reviews and was actually a waste of money. Our guide (don't know his name, but he wore a long khaki-colored coat and had dark hair) was not a good public speaker, did not enunciate, and was very difficult to hear/understand over the trolley's speaker system. At one point, he became visibly angry with a woman who was talking to her seatmate, went out of character, and publicly called her out over the microphone. I appreciate that it is his job to maintain control over the passengers, but this was very unprofessional, and he could have accomplished the same thing by talking to her privately. We enjoyed the two cemeteries, and the witch who was the guide at the second cemetery was quite good. But overall, we didn't find the tour to be very informative or fun. And we must not have been alone in feeling that way, because at least 1/3 of the passengers did not re-board the trolley after the second cemetery visit. When our trolley passed some of the other trolleys, we could hear the other guides, and they sounded much more fun and interesting than ours. So the quality of the tour seems to be largely dependent on who your guide is.
Also - on the afternoon of the tour, we wanted to find out how much walking would be involved so we could choose the appropriate footwear. I called the phone number for Historic Tours of America listed on the confirmation email, but no one answered and there was no way to leave a voicemail. Very disappointing.
