There was only one other couple on our tour, so it had a very private feel to it. Rebecca, our guide, inquired beforehand about our preferences and level of wine knowledge. It seems that, using that information, tailored the experience to us.
Rebecca is a multi-generational Fredericksburg native and a sommelier. Those two facts made her a very knowledgeable fount of interesting information - about wine and the history of the area.
Ask her how/why she became a tour guide and a sommelier. Fascinating!
We visited 3 winerys. The first was a production tour of Slate Mill, a large cooperative operation. It is family-owned and the owner's son was our very enthusiastic, guide within their facilities. He introduced us to some very good wines.
The second was a tasting at a very small vineyard and winery, Narrow Path. This is also family owned. We had the opportunity to taste 6 different, very lovely wines. The terrace where we did the tasting is beautiful: the breeze, the views, the landscaping. We had lunch here, sandwiches from a shop in town. Quite good.
The third was the Texas Heritage Winery. They also had some very interesting wines. Our time there was a bit short because we had lingered too long at Narrow Path.
