The Bushwick Collective project makes for an alternative photo session that I found engaging on a number of levels. This is not typical graffiti. It is street art by some of the best in the world, as well as some locals who add their expressive content. I am 70 and this is not my art age type, but I found myself asking questions about the subject matter just as I would engaging with art at the MET.
The best part of the tour for me was hands down ZIM, my professional photographer guide. I am an advanced amateur photographer. She helped identify out of the ordinary compositions, better and more effective ways to utilize the great technology on my camera, and how to think through the subject of the shots.
Photography should be about creating art from the surroundings — the subject matter. When the subject is art, photography at its best can tell a compelling story about that art. If you choose to go this route in NY, the Bushwick Collective in Brooklyn will reward you with some great photos.
