The Calypso Queen Buffet Cruise is available for either the lunch time or the sunset cruise. My husband and I took the evening cruise. The brochure promised tasty food, rum punch, and music. Here are the pluses and the minuses.
The pluses were: Friendly staff, from the ticket taker to the gal that seats you. Good selection and tastiness of the food.
The minuses: This boat is beat up. The carpet is tired from top to bottom with a large hole in it on the 3rd Floor. The boat is dirty. We sat down at a table that was sticky on the top and on its sides - uggh. When we sat down I noticed the buffet area and there was a dinner roll on the floor under the food area. Was it from the lunch cruise, or when? The rum punch was awful. The pink liquid tasted sort of like cool-aid that the bottle of rum had briefly encountered. I wasn't looking to get drunk - but don't call it a rum punch if there is no discernible rum in it. A cursory explanation of safety and the location of the life jackets was given. Then I noticed that some of the life jackets were found beyond the emergency door. Unfortunately the emergency door was zip tied shut. See picture. What would've happened if we would've had an emergency? Yikes! And finally, the disc jockey was sooooo lame. He simply played some adequate tunes with minimal talking between songs. What he should've done was to start out with happy mellow tunes while we were eating, and ease into participatory songs that all ages and singles and couples can join in on. For example, the Electric Slide, the Macarena, the Hokey Pokey, etc. If the owners are serious about putting out a quality product, they should go to Cabo San Lucas and take the "Cabo Escape" Sunset Cruise. I've taken a dozen or more sunset cruises in a variety of forms. The Calypso Queen misses the boat.
