My tour was on 8/11/2021. All of the amazing reviews were years ago as now it is a different experience without looking for wildlife (i.e. dolphins). Don’t waste you time! Skip this tour! It was apparent the captain and crew did not want to be there. The captain’s jokes turned backhanded political-seriously, there is absolutely no need to make vacation political and he and one crew member were downright rude. The cruise comprises of meeting at the harbor/dock-speed sailing for ~45 mins to an hour to Kealakekua Bay. Once there you have 90 mins to snorkel. The captain tells you this much but also states a few times “don’t ask me when we’re leaving or how much time there’s left. You’ll know when I whistle. When I whistle, you come back to the boat”. I get that the captain is probably sick and tired of people asking him when we’re leaving but really? It’s kind of tacky to actually state that when you’re in this kind of business. Once the 90 mins are up, we sped back to the harbor/dock. Stopped at a couple places where the captain talked about the history/significance. At no point did the crew stop to look for dolphins or any other sea life (no whales during summer, only during winter months). The entire time felt very procedural and not very fun. While snorkeling I did ask the captain if we’ll see dolphins on our way back and he was very nonchalant and replied “maybe yes maybe no”. The captain had an overall sour attitude. Also while snorkeling my husband happened to ask me “how much more time do we have left?” knowing not to ask the captain and the captain replied to us (we were in the water but near the back of the boat within earshot of the captain) “I told you to not ask, we’ll go when I blow the whistle”. The final issue I had with the crew was when I noticed the bag I brought on the boat with me (that had my keys, phones, dry clothes in it) was getting wet (by all the folks rinsing off once they were done) bc the row my family and I sat in was the last row and closest to the warm rinse shower…I still had my fins on but I climbed up the ladder and tried to move my bag when the crew scolded at me “don’t you see what you’re stepping on?” He was pointing to the stack of fins he lined up right behind my seats but in direct line of the warm shower rinse. I was taken aback and kind of mad at this point so I quipped back “don’t you see I am trying to move my bag that’s getting wet? I do see the fins and I didn’t step on any of them!” All in all, it was a lot of money $120 for adults and $95 for kids to snorkel for ~90 mins. Save your time and save your money. This is one outing I can’t recommend even to people I don’t like. On a separate note, if you find yourself on Oahu and want to do an amazing snorkeling and wildlife adventure, do check out Ocean Joy Cruises. My family and I did this cruise and had a fabulous time. We saw Hawaiian Spinner dolphins, tons of fish, sea turtles, multiple octopus (whales - we went in January 2021 and again in March 2021). We also enjoyed a nice plate lunch and alcoholic drinks onboard-not the ready made Costco sandwiches that we got here.
