Once you’ve booked, you’ll receive a ticket with instructions and a unique code listed under “Before You Go”. Then simply install the VoiceMap app and enter your code.

The app displays directions to the starting point, and when you’re in the right place, just pop in your headphones and tap start. VoiceMap has automatic GPS playback, with turn-by-turn directions. It also works offline.

You can do your own walking tour. We didn’t since some of my friends cannot do a lot of walking. When I’m traveling on my own, walking tour and a hop on/hop off bus is the first on my list. It’s one way to get yourself oriented in a new place. So in this trip to Carmel, my friends and I searched for the houses throughout our week long stay. The map for the story book cottages is available at the visitors center. Once you have the map, you can see where they are are and plan on when you can explore a certain area to see them. A few of them are located in the business area and the center of town. You can also have tea or breakfast in one of the cottages. Carmel is explored better by walking. And you can find a lot of interesting restaurants and establishment plus locals who are friendly and willing to spend time talking to you on your daily jaunt.

Buying the tickets was easy. Got stuck with the Get your guide app was not easy. I couldn’t locate my booking from the app. It said I didn’t have any. I was so frustrated, I walked to Visitor Center in Carmel By the Sea, and the lady said people have problems understanding how to access the self your. She gave my sister and I a map to point us to the houses. We were able to find a few houses but my sister received a different map that I received. The numbering of the houses did not line up. Since we cannot walk up to look at the place, it is not easy to identify. I gave up on connecting to the audio. Since I was not able to use it, I would like credit to use on a later date. I tried the help desk and it did not help. I recommend some sort of numbering on each house and written placard on each house. I also need to understand the steps on how to activate the audio. What does TripAdvisor app used for? I tried to call the help phone number but there was no dial tone. Note below that I was with my sister but unable to find it, so I selected friend instead.

This was such a lovely experience. You can see some of the most unique and beautiful houses in the area. It’s a great way to experience Carmel by the sea.
