Central Park Zoo

The zoo is open every day of the year and features three major biomes: the Tropic Zone, Temperate Territory, and the Polar Circle. From tropical birds, to snow leopards, grizzly bears, and one of the nation’s largest colonies of Antarctic penguins, there are animals to enjoy in every season. We also feature the Tisch Children’s Zoo, a playful adventure for our youngest guests who’ll encounter goats, sheep, some of the world’s most unique ducks, and the only cow who calls Manhattan home. Our goal is to inspire our visitors and connect them to the plight of animals in the wild and the conservation work we’re doing to protect them.

A perfect escape from the intensity and concrete of NY City, yet walking distance from everything. You can spend an hour or an hour and a half here.....no feeling of being rushed. Rainforest has exotic birds that may be one foot away from you. Snow leopards, if you are lucky, will look at you from maybe 10 feet. Breathtakingly beautiful. Also view grizzly bears, monkeys, seals and penguins. Zoo has enough animals to make it interesting but not so many that you have to spend a few hours there to see them. The Zoo is a peaceful place to rest, with moving water sources all around, nice landscaping, and more. Its also a very inexpensive way to relax in the midst of NY noise and crowds. Easy walk to 59th Street and then you are back in the action. Highly recommend for adults as well as families with children.

Our little guy put his hand out and one of the orange birds pecked it. Then he started yelling at the bird, saying don't you ever bite me again. It's not nice to bite people. Then every bird he saw he started yelling at it not to bite him.

To be honest, for children, it is great, but the enclosures are too small, penguins and Puffins have no access to natural light, and their enclosures are far too small too! Very disappointing. It was clean and the staff were nice. The bears didn't seem to have any stimulation. And the same with the monkeys. It's a shame. Sometimes, less is more. Poor snow leopard too. There was only one Swan, not good. Peacock needed more space too.
